January 2024
Tom, Kobi, Xylo and Paul attend the annual Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology conference in Seattle. Tom presented his work on oyster toadfish recordings and anthropogenic noise characterization across four locations in NYC, coauthored by Xylo, Rachel, and Sydney. Kobi presented his research on seasonal and testosterone regulation of synapses in the midshipman inner ear. Xylo presented their summer research in the Wilson lab on pipefish reproduction.
Kelsey's manuscript "Characterization of anthropogenic noise and oyster toadfish (Opsanus tau) calling behavior in urban and small-town coastal soundscapes," has been accepted for publication in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. Co-authors include, Tom, Xylo, Rachel, Sydney and former REU student Rebecca. Congrats to all!
April 2024
Xylo is awarded a Rosen Fellowship. They will use the grant to conduct a bioacoustic study on yet another local, soniferous fish--the striped cusk eel. Congrats, Xylo!
Kobi wins first place for his poster, "Seasonal Regulation of Axons and Myelination in Auditory Primary Afferents of Female Plainfin Midshipman Fish" at Brooklyn College's 2024 Science Research Day. Great work Kobi!
May 2024
Tom is invited to speak at the Gordon Research Seminar on Neural Mechanisms of Acoustic Communication. His talk and poster are titled "Anthropogenic Sound and Opsanus tau Advertisement Calls in Various New York City Soundscapes."
September 2024
Kobi receives a Trainee Professional Development Award from the Society for Neuroscience. Congratulations Kobi!
